Tips for the Frugal Moms and Moms-To-Be

Being a mom is a full-time job and most of the time, the financial aspect of this job is the biggest problem. Never mind the fact that you have to pick-up toys all day. There is so much you need to have around the house: Clothes, diapers, food...

So how can you save up when all of the budget concerns seem to overwhelm you? Here are some tips to keep you sane and at the same time, save you a couple of hundreds of dollars while giving your children everything that they need:

1. Accept hand-me-downs. Some moms take pride in knowing that all the clothes their children are wearing are brand new but it doesn't hurt to make them wear a couple of hand-me-down shirts when they are at home or are playing at the sandbox. This will save you a lot more money since children's clothes nowadays cost as much as - sometimes, even more than - adult clothes.

2. For moms with smaller kids, instead of buying a teething toy for your tot, why not try freezing a wash cloth and give it to your child to munch on? The cold will numb the teething pain while your child enjoys the crunchy texture of the wash cloth.

3. Crayons, markers and other art materials can be stored in old baby wipes container instead of buying a penholder. This way, you can eliminate clutter in the house and recycle at the same time.

4. Buy diapers, baby wipes and practically everything consumable (except milk) in bulk. You save up on a lot of money when it comes right down to it.

5. For new moms, breastfeed. Not only will you save up heaps of money for milk, you will also be providing your child the best protection and the nutrients your baby will ever need.

Saving money and imagination go hand-in-hand when you think about it. The more imaginative you are, the more money you can save. Also remember that you don't need to own it to enjoy it. This mantra is perfect for the budget-wise and loving mom (and mom-to-be).
